Construction sites all around, Lima

Let aside the fact that we had chosen our appartment with a considerable criteria being the relative quietness of the area and that it's now completely ruined by the works around us, the current building boom in Lima is not coming to an end any time soon apparently...

Just around our building, which is at a T-junction, there are about 10 7-storey building construction sites at eye-range, 3 of them being less than 50 meters away.

P4190005The one we already gave pictures of previously has apparently gotten to the last level (you can have fun checking the number of floors on the little plan right above street level), so it's already entering the cleaning round, with floors and ceilings being flattened and additional walls being built. It doesn't show from the front side, but the building is actually quite deep, probably around 40 meters.

Considering it's got around 20 meters width and it's probably going to be cut in half for every floor (or will it be 4?), it might offer considerable living space.

This end of Avenida La Paz is quite quiet (temporary construction sites apart), so it wouldn't be bad living in one of them.

When this building got to the third floor though, they started smashing down another house on the other side of our building.P4190008

This house is now looking like this (see picture): a giant hole where they are going to build the foundations of another 7-storeys building (most probably, although I don't remember seeing the building plan). Judging by the hole, they will make a parking lot available to every owner (it's scaringly deep and it makes me wonder if the next-door buildings are not in some kind of collapsing danger.

You might take the opportunity to confirm that winter has come back to Lima, as I was saying 3 posts ago, judging by the light layer of clouds in front of the Marriott Hotel in the back.

Now, by the time the first building reached its sixth floor, yet another house was demolished to make way for yet another construction site (see picture - you can see the house on the right is the same as the house on the left side of the first picture, so these two construction sites are just one house apart). This one is still undergoing demolition, which is the noisiest bit (a bulldozer comes and rips the walls apart all day long for about a month).

I wonder when that's all going to calm down. I mean... there's still a house, on the right side of the last construction site, and another one on the left... There's also and incredibly ugly house on the right side of the first construction site... That one should be the first one to go, if you ask me...

Anyway, I just wanted to give you a personal view on my surroundings...
