Burnt down car

A couple of week ago, just at the end of the working day, an annoucement was heard from the office's loudspeaker: "Employees are advised not to leave the building,  there is a burning car in the street by the entrance!". Well, that's not some small event! And to think that it happens at 6pm, just when everyone is getting ready to leave the office... Since I was all ready to go and had shut down my computer already, I climbed the 3 flights of stairs to the roof from where you have an alright view of the street, and found a few of my colleagues already on the roof. And this is what I saw...

Waow - lots of flames and smoke! Unfortunately, the wind was blowing towards us, so we probably breathed in quite a few toxic fumes despite covering our nose and mouth with our clothes. A crowd of spectators quickly gathered in the street and the firemen arrived in their big red truck when there were already no more flames to be seen. I was slightly nervous that the car would explode, like in movies, but it didn't. The lawn and 4x4 truck in the walled-off property on the left, belongs to the Peruvian Geological Society, our office's neighbours.

How the car came to light up is unsure but noone thinks it was against our office or the geological society building next door. The most probable is that it was an unfortunate accident involving an old rusty car. Noone got injured and the next day, the car was gone, although a circle of burn marks could be seen on the street and pavement. I left the office by the front door around 6.15pm, and walked back home through the crowd of on-lookers and through police-blocked streets.

Sorry about the poor quality photos: I was using the camera on my phone.
